Eggy App Giveaway!

By now you would get the feeling that I love the apps from the people that make Reading Eggs. You can also probably tell by this folder on my ipad

Recently they have made a coupld of their fantastic apps FREE for short times, which is awesome.

They contacted me about trying one of their new apps called Add to 20

Here is a view of all the games you can play in the game. As the title suggests it is all to do with numbers under 20, but each game has multiple levels which start off with very small numbers and change difficulty.

I will just give you a snap shot of each game type :)

Balloons - pop the answer balloon. Each time you clear the screen a bird flies down to sit on the perch.

Teddy

Each time you get the right combination, teddy climbs the rope.

Snowboard - I could see how the boys would like this one! Ride at the sum at matches the answer on the screen. But watch out for rocks and trees.

Sheepdog - Get the dog to jump from sheep to sheep on the right answer. The sheep are moving across the screen which makes this one more fun

Memory - Find the right question and answer to match.

Fishing - Find two fish to make the number in the corner of the screen

I really like this app, simply because you could use it to meet a wide range of learners with the different levels! The games are easy to follow and learn.

I *heart* free apps...

Firstly, apologies for my lack of posting. You know what the first few weeks back after a break are like. You need to get your head in the right space, then write a program......throw organising Kindergarten Orientation and reports into the mix and you know how I'm feeling.

Anyways....

I was contacted by the good people at Reading Eggs. They have the most fantastic apps for K-2 learners (I think I own most of them!). A few weeks ago they made Tap the Cat free for a week. They are doing it again but this time it is Eggy Alphabet!

This app is so great for Pre K-K kids and even for your RTI students in Year 1. Each letter of the alphabet has a range of activities to help your students with their letter id, writing and recognition.

They can trace the letter - both upper and lowercase and the best part is, it wont let you do it the wrong way. It encourages correct letter formation :)

Initial sounds recognition for each letter.

The app reads you the word and you pick which initial sound it begins with.

I have used this app in my Kinder class before and the kids loved it! Go and grab it before it goes back to paid.

Literacy Stations in action!

We are now in Week 4 of our second term of Kindergarten and lit stations are beginning to kick along nicely! Of course there are teething problems (like the one child this week who I busted playing Lego games on the iPad or the other child who just sat with his arms folded for the time) but on the whole, the kids are engaged, learning, working together and I am getting a lot of information collected on how my cherubs are reading, and what they need to do to progress.

This weeks focus was initial sounds, so a few of my activities centered around this idea.

Here we are engaging in some initial sounds clipping fun. This activity had the kiddies saying what the picture was (eg. nest) isolating the initial sound and then clipping a peg on it. You can find my post about this activity HERE, which includes links to go grab it yourself.

These cubes are so versatile! These have clear pockets on them which means you can use them in reading, writing, maths..... In this activity (for my lower students) they were working on letter id and what sounds does the letter make. They would roll the dice, say the sounds and record on their whiteboard. For my more capable groups, I had various sight words and they completed the same activity. I bought the cubes on Amazon and may need to get another set!

Reading an unfamiliar text was one of our groups. They read with the support teacher who does all the orientation to the text, questions etc and then read the same book with me the following week so they can have a chance to demonstrate fluency, expression, pause etc

Here is another initial sounds sheet I made up for the kiddies. They had to say the word, isolate the sound and then match it to the letter on the page. I just concentrated on letters we have focused on recently

And one of the favourites of the week, the iPad/iPod station. We do have school iPads but we are currently setting them up to be available as class sets. This is my own iPad and my husbands iPod. We were playing Eggy Alphabet and Eggy Words. Go and find them in the app store - you wont be disappointed.

Next weeks focus is making CVC words so I will be busy this weekend making some activities for this focus ....that is after I do some work on my reports :)
