Hi All

Tomorrow I will be running a parent workshop at school. It is focusing on kids tech time at home and what types of websites would be educational, but fun at the same time!! I pulled some of my favourites together in one handout and thought you might like it too!

Our week in 5/6B

WOW
What a huge week we had!
But what a great start to my new class and a new school year.

We did a lot of work on our class, and how we need to be working together for us all to reach our goals. I took it pretty easy and tried to get an indication of where I am starting from with each child. Here are a few other things we did throughout the week.

We talked about what we would like our class to be like this year and I had everyone write 5 words to describe it. I compiled all of their words into this cute Tagzedo and it is stuck next to our classroom door for us all to read each day.

We completed a class scavenger hunt. Grab this freebie HERE

They received some "Tools for Learning" from me.

And created some learning spaces they would like in their classroom using a variety of things including playdoh, kinetic sand, whiteboards and paint.

We began planning our Minecraft themed self portraits and then....

began creating them with paper! I cut out the strips and it was up to the kids to cut the squares. I can't wait to share the finished product!

Class scavenger hunt {freebie}

We are going into week 2 of our new school year and I am looking forward to getting my new class. Besides setting rules and expectations, I am hoping to foster a positive classroom vibe to really make our year successful! This one of the activities I am planning this week.


Students go around and find people who fit each category. I usually make a rule that you can only have each persons name ONCE! This encourages more conversations and mingling among the kids. Click the pic below to download the file. There is two versions included - the one pictured and another, more generic version.

I hope you can use it and your students enjoy getting to know each other :)

Roll and Multiply

I would like to share a great warm up game for maths time for students who know their times tables. It is great for promoting quick thinking and fast recall of these facts.

You need a multi-sided dice. This will be the number you multiply by. Choose a 6, 10, 12 (or 20 if you want to be able to go up to 12 x but dont have the right dice). Laminate or slide into a protective sleeve to use again.

Roll the dice once (or have the teacher pick) what is the number to multiply by each time. Here I have gone with 5.

Roll the dice. Each time, multiply your initial number written in the corner by the number rolled. In the pic, I would be doing the equation 5 x 3 (3 being the number rolled).

Continue until there is a winning number.

What a long week! I have been such an inconsistent blogger. I have been trying to link up with

for weeks and decided to just sit down after a long day at work and do it! Here we go...

I played Mum last week and went on my son's very first Kindergarten excursion to the farm. How cute is this little ducking?

This was a sad sad morning in KB. The cleaner *might* have knocked it off and *might* have forgotten to tell me. Lucky for me, my AWESOME Scentsy consultant Alison from Teaching Maths with Meaning was able to order me a new one and within 2 days it was sitting at the door (or it *might* have been thrown over the fence by the post man). My room was back to smelling gorgeous this morning.

On the right were the cute chickens I shared on my FB page from Mel @ From the Pond. Last week to go with our chicken theme, we made these super cute lifecycle chicks from Bilingual Scrapbook.

Today we said farewell to our chick babies. We had 4 families who adopted 2 chicks each and I made them promise to keep us updated with photos. It is always such a great experience having this happen in our classroom. The company we use is Living Eggs.

Shake Rattle Drop and Friends of Ten

We have been practicing our addition and friends of ten this week. I came up with a quick way to play shake rattle drop all on the one page.

If you have never played Shake Rattle Drop, you need a ten frame (or this sheet) and ten double sided counters. You also need something to record with.

Shake the counters in your hands, and drop onto the page.

We always place the red counters first and yellow sides sencond.

Write down the Friends of Ten!

Go and fill the recording sheet up! It is great practice and the kids start to notice the number patterns for Friends of Ten quite quickly.

Currently July!!! and New FB Fan Freebie

Can you believe it is July? How fast is this year going?

Listening - My kids are really enjoying not having to rush to get ready for school in the morning. They go to before and after school care every day so we are normally out the door at 7.15 each morning. But today (its 8.16am now) they are in PJs dancing to One Direction! Love me some holidays!

Loving - My creative juices are going at the moment! I posted a new FB fan freebie this week which if you havent grabbed click HERE to go to my page and get it!. I am also working on a HUGE new pack...its going to be a long time in the making I think :)

Thinking - This term for the first time, we are going to be looking at DINOSAURS! I am so excited and I have so many ideas....how to get them all on paper? Our new syllabus for English has a huge emphasis on multi-modal texts so I am making a list of TV shows and movies to incorporate into the study. So far I am thinking TV - Dino Dan, Dinosaur Train and Movies - Land Before Time, Walking with Dinosaurs. Have you got some other awesome suggestions?

Wanting - It is the middle of winter, although sometimes its hard to remember. Yesterday we went to the park to play and I ended up in a singlet top I was that warm! You do feel it at night and in morning though. Bring on SPRING!

Needing - This year is my first year back at work full time since before having my kids and I am struggling a bit with keeping the house in order. Its all I can do to cook the dinner, run the dishwasher and wash the clothes. Any tips for keeping me more organised?

4th Plans - In Australia, we don't acknowledge the 4th BUT my kids are both going out with friends on Friday so I am planning on catching up on trashy TV :)
