Go away spammers!!!

I just need to vent...

I have been having a spam problem.

Not SPAM in a can (although I have a problem with that as well) but spammers on my blog.

No, I don't want to join your online casino.

No, I don't want you to invest my money.

No, I don't want to play blackjack.

No, I STILL don't want to join your casino.

Now I know this spam is probably all computer generated and that this rant is just that - a rant.

But I wish they would just go away and stop spamming on my blog.

That.is.all.

  1. I am with you Brooke!!

The other day a good friend of ours asked me to turn on allowing anonymous people to comment because she doesn't have a google id, and I was super happy to do that for her.....until I got 3 spam comments in the space of 2 hrs, so I turned anonymous comments off again. Sorry my good friend, it was just toooo annoying. Go away spammers!!

  2. Oh what a pain! I haven't received any spam yet (fingers crossed I don't jinx myself!) but is there anyway you can block them? What a waste of time!

  3. Tania is right, turn off the ability for "anonymous" users to post comments. I had the same problem and the second I turned it off the problem was gone! You can access it from "settings" section on your blogger dashboard. Then go to "posts and comments" and choose "registered users" instead of "anyone." You can always check the "spam" section on your comments page to see if there are any real comments that accidentally got blocked.

  4. I allow anonymous comments as even though I have a google acct, and a WP account, and every other type of logon known to man .. I still sometimes stumble across different platforms that just won't let me comment unless I join their fancy-pants commenting system and it makes me GRR! :)

I also know a lot of non-techy types, so I like to be user-friendly. I can't stand catchpa verification either, so I simply have to moderate comments before publishing, which is ok. I mainly get those fake interest replies like:

"Hey, this is a nice blog, I am glad to come read it, you are most informed. Can you tell me how to get more reades - my blog here:" (usually something like: Watch eps of LOST online now ).. lol ..

Sometimes though, a particular POST draws a LOT of attention for some reason, and after it's been up a while and all my 'good' peeps have had a good change to comment if they like, I will get sick of the spam and just close comments on that particular post. They usually go away after that until they find another post they like.

Wow, that was an essay!! :)
